Who we are
A little poem about the starting of the SimsBerry Chapel
SimsBerry Chapel
In 1914, they had a great desire
For a community church building, and it really would transpire.
They were deeded an acre, rounded up some logs,
And they all joined in, as the building came along.
There were logs from Mr. Wescott, Mr. Berry and Mr. Sims,
From friends in Pineville, and all over the county the cash came in.
There was digging the foundation, pouring cement and the paint
Even little children carried stones and didn't faint.
1914, October 22
Sunday service was held and Sunday School started too.
Well, they grew and grew until they had to add some more
Sunday school rooms with a basement under the floor.
Double doors in the front with a belfry up above.
New stairs to the basement and landscaping done with love!
They never asked for money, nor solicitations made
People just sent it, and the same is true today.
The stain glass windows are in memory of loved ones lost
Wayne Wellesley gave the church bell, circa 1896.
The community had a church, the community had a building.
They could come together to worship, they could host a reception for a wedding.
There were many showers given, a place for 4-H and other meetings
A male quartet was started and an orchestra was neat.
They had the "Lord's Acre" sale and a dinner was sold
All proceeds went to the church general fund we're told.
In 1980 the church got a steeple
It was in memory of Chester Feasel.
The ramp was installed in 1989.
Memorial monies were used and it worked just fine.
On December 31, 2018, the church was closed.
It was a sad day for the remaining members we know.
But God has plans and God is purposeful.
An offer was accepted and that was, well a miracle.
For $3000.00, Sim's Corner Church bought it
And a vision unfolded to continue what was started.
A place to worship, a place to call HOME.
A place for community and each to make their own.
A place of support and of giving back.
A safe place where the doors are always open
And we'll help you get back on track.
At Sim's Chapel, come one, come all
Be a part of a vision, never too old or small.
